The emerald ash borer is an insect, more precisely in the beetle category, measuring nearly half an inch in length and sporting a metallic green color. Originating in Asia, it arrived in Canada via shipments containing pallets of ash wood.
Even today, it can travel within our continent via wooden crates or firewood, for example. The invasion of this insect is wreaking havoc on this species of tree. Unfortunately, this beetle has no natural predators in our country and is very difficult to combat.
If the EAB invasion is detected early enough, it's possible that a meticulous pruning operation carried out by our specialists will succeed in preserving the life of the tree. If half the tree is already infested, the only solution is to cut it down and remove the stump from the ground. The best way to prevent the presence of EAB on your property is, of course, not to plant this species of tree. However, if you already have an ash tree on your property, it's a good idea to add other tree species, to create a diversity that could help slow down contamination.
