A beautiful cedar hedge, especially if it's tall and lush, is a wise choice to ensure the privacy of our living space, in an economical and aesthetic way. However, it needs to be properly maintained every year, to preserve its vitality in both the short and long term.
If you neglect your hedge's annual pruning, its natural growth will result in irregular, unattractive width, height and shape. It will then be difficult to correct, as the more drastic trimming needed to rebalance the hedge may cause the cedars to lose their vigour. You'll end up with dead, brown, and bare sections. Entire trees may even die. Proper pruning, on the other hand, will improve tree health.
